Murder Ballad Monday is coming up on June 11th. It’ll be the last one for a bit. The Gathering Dark will continue to play Sanctuary Brewing every Monday. I’ll host the open mic and Steve and I will assign a theme to the alternating Mondays.
The Monday Schedule at Sanctuary will look like this:
6/11 Murder Ballad Monday
6/18 Takes All Kinds Open Mic
6/25 Bob Dylan Night
7/2 Takes All Kinds Open Mic
7/9 Paul Simon Night
7/16 Takes All Kinds Open Mic
7/23 “The Gathering Dark Presents Songs About Cars” (Not songs by the Cars unless the Cars also did a song about cars.)
7/30 Takes All Kinds Open Mic
Murder Ballad Monday will return. But I need a break from murder. The news of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain have hit me hard. The songs and stories of murder have hit me hard.
Just under the surface lies a darkness. Some days I am consumed by the darkness. Some days I don’t think about it. I’ve heard depression referred to as a dark passenger. Sounds about right. The strange coincidence is that Thursday was one of those dark days for me. I guess it was a dark day for Anthony Bourdain as well. One of us woke up on Friday. I need to remember that.
I need a break from suicide. I need a break from murder. I need a break from the dark.
Here’s a song I wrote about my dark passenger.
